Formally, my educational background is in instrument design engineering. When I emigrated from England, I quickly got a job in my field. It was a good job that I enjoyed very much. I stayed with that company for more than 15 years. I have faith in God and I’ve always believed that whatever path I was on, it was in my best interest. I became aware of lay offs in my department, I knew that they would start with those with seniority and work down from there. One day my boss called me into his office and told me that I was being laid off. That’s what can happen when you work for someone else, you can work hard- day in and day out- but when they no longer need you, they let you go. My boss was always very good to me, he was worried about my financial security without the job, but this decision came from the top, there was nothing that could be done. I let him know that I would be fine and that I would find something better. Even though I had so many years of Canadian experience, I could not find a better job. I was blessed to have gone to the same Temple as Arvind Soni because he invited me out to a business seminar that was in an industry I had no experience in but he told me to come anyway. Knowing the man that he was and his integrity, I listened and although I was very skeptical, I went to the seminar. I didn’t understand too much – the Rule of 72, the Theory of Decreasing Responsibility but they said other things that caught my attention. Primerica is a different company, helping ordinary Canadian consumers by educating them about money – how to save money and how to make an income, all you have to do is be willing to work hard and help people. It does not matter where you come from, what nationality you are or your level of education, you have the ability to create something special for yourself and your family. You have the freedom to work at your own pace and with your schedule. When I came into Primerica the company motto was God first, family second and business third and that was something I would never find in a corporate job. When I first got started, all I did was take my trainer, Arvind Soni, on appointments with me. I let him do all the talking and I just sat and watched. I learned everything he said and did with the families we sat with. I realized most families were in the same financial situation, just the numbers differed a little. Seeing the repetition gave me confidence to do it on my own the moment I got licensed. One of the many things I love about this company is the importance they put on partnership. All the recognition I have been given over the years all have my wife, Shila’s name on it as well. When I went to MIT in Atlanta after becoming RVP, Shila was there with me, the company paid for both of our plane tickets and accommodations. What excited me most about Primerica was the secret to success, and it is only two words: Hard Work. We are used to working hard for someone else but at the end of the day, our hard work benefits the company we work for, we are building someone else’s legacy. With Primerica, all that hard work will benefit your family, it is you building your legacy, plus the company provides amazing recognition for those who help the most families. The support we receive from the company is unbelievable. Not only from the company itself but from other representatives who have no financial gains from me winning but they are genuinely happy to watch me succeed. I’d like to thank Bobby and Candy Gocool for all of their support and to Arvind and Neeta Soni for believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity and for your dedicated support through the years. Thank you for retraining an instrument designer into a Primerica business owner.
